DTC Descriptor
DTC P1082
- Fuel Filter Pressure Switch Performance
Diagnostic Fault Information
Typical Scan Tool Data
Circuit/System Description
The fuel filter pressure switch is a normally closed switch located near the fuel filter housing. If fuel supply line vacuum is greater than 14 in Hg the switch will open. The engine control module (ECM) monitors the system in after-run for an open circuit.
Conditions for Running the DTC
ECM monitors the circuit 30 s into the after-run mode.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
* The ECM detects an open or short to voltage in the Fuel Filter Pressure Switch Signal circuit.
* The above condition is present for greater than 3 s.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
DTC P1082 is a Type C DTC.
Conditions for Clearing the MIL/DTC
DTC P1082 is a Type C DTC.
Diagnostic Aids
* A restricted, kinked, or damaged fuel supply line may cause this DTC to set.
* Contaminated or improper fuel may cause this DTC to set. Refer to Fuel System Specifications (Fuel System Specifications) and Contaminants-in-Fuel Diagnosis (Contaminants-in-Fuel Diagnosis).
* A restricted or contaminated fuel filter may cause this DTC to set.

Circuit/System Verification
1. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool Fuel Filter Pressure Switch parameter displays OK.
2. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC to verify the DTC does not reset. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data.
Circuit/System Testing
1. Install the CH-48027 to the fuel system service port on the right front side of the engine. Verify the CH-48027 displays 0 in Hg.
• If not the specified value, refer to Fuel System Diagnosis (Fuel System Diagnosis).
2. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the B181 fuel filter pressure switch.
3. Test for less than 10 ohm between the fuel filter pressure switch terminal A and terminal B.
• If greater than the specified value, replace the B181 fuel filter pressure switch.
4. Test for less than 5 ohm between the Signal Ground circuit terminal A and ground.
• If greater than the specified value, repair the open or high resistance in the Signal Ground circuit.
5. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool Fuel Pressure Switch parameter displays restricted.
• If other than the specified value, test the Fuel Filter Pressure Switch Signal circuit terminal B for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K20 engine control module.
6. Install a 3 A fused jumper wire between the Fuel Filter Pressure Switch Signal circuit terminal B and the Signal Ground circuit terminal A. Verify the scan tool Fuel Filer Pressure Switch parameter displays OK.
• If other than the specified value, test the Fuel Filter Pressure Switch Signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K20 engine control module.
• If all circuits test normal, refer to Diagnostic Aids.
Repair Instructions
Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification (Verification Tests) after completing the diagnostic procedure.
* Fuel Pressure Sensor Replacement (Fuel Pressure Sensor Replacement)
* Control Module References (Programming and Relearning) for ECM replacement, programming, and setup.
