Interior - Rattle Noise from Front Side Door Trim Panel

TECHNICAL

Bulletin No.: 09-08-110-019

Date: July 22, 2009

Subject: Rattle Noise from Front Side Door Trim Panel Area (Revise Attachment)

Models:
2009 Chevrolet Traverse

Condition

Some customers may comment on a rattling noise coming from the front door inner trim panel area. This condition originates from the door handle area and can occur on both the left and right front doors.

Cause

This condition may be caused by the trim panel insert being loose on its heat stake mountings. The heat stakes along the lower edge of the insert panel may not have been completely formed during the manufacturing process. The stakes that are not fully formed may allow the insert panel to rattle on the trim panel mounting area.

Correction

Note
Do not replace the front side door trim panel to correct this condition.

Use the following procedure to revise the heat stake attachment along the lower edge of the trim panel insert panel.

1. Remove the front side door trim panel on the affected door. Refer to Front Side Door Trim Panel Replacement in SI.

2. With the trim panel removed from the vehicle, locate the nine heat stake attachments located along the lower edge of the trim panel insert.

3. Apply hand pressure (squeeze) to each heat stake area and identify the stakes that are not fully formed.

4. Using spring clamps or vise grips, clamp the insert panel as shown around the loose heat stakes.

5. Apply Kent Industries Ure-Set UF Fast Curing Urethane For Plastic Repair Part # KT 13632* or the equivalent to the area around the loose stake. Allow the adhesive to flow between the insert panel and the heat stake.
6. Cure the adhesive per the manufacturer's instructions.
7. Remove the clamps.
8. Reinstall the front side door trim panel on the affected door. Refer to Front Side Door Trim Panel Replacement in SI.
