TECHNICAL

Bulletin No.: 09-08-63-001

Date: February 19, 2009

Subject:
Hood Bumper Loose or Misaligned (Align Hood Bumper, Bond In Position)

Models:
2009 Chevrolet Traverse

Built Prior to April 27, 2009

Condition

Some customers may comment that the hood over-slam bumpers, located on the outer front corners of the underside of the hood are loose, misaligned or have fallen off of the hood. This condition may also make the hood appear out of alignment.

Cause

Variation in the after hem sealer, applied to the underside of the hood, may cause the bumpers to remain loose after being installed.

Correction

Use the following procedure to align the hood over-slam bumpers and bond them in place.

1. Twist the hood over slam bumpers 90 degrees in either direction to disengage the mounting tab (1).

2. Clean the surface on the underside of the hood in the over-slam bumper mounting areas. Follow the adhesive manufacturer's instructions (1).

3. Clean the hood over-slam bumper on the mounting tab side. Follow the adhesive manufacturer's instructions.

4. Install the hood over-slam bumpers and align with the front edge of the hood as shown (1).

5. With the bumpers installed and aligned, pull down the front of the bumper and apply a small amount of black silicone sealant such as GM P/N 12346286 (in Canada, 10953472) RTV Silicone Sealant or equivalent to the area in front of the mounting hole in the hood.

6. Verify the alignment of the over-slam bumper and close the hood to apply pressure to the bond area. Allow the adhesive to fully cure per the adhesive manufacturer's instructions.
