Circuit Description
The rear seat entertainment (RSE) system works with the vehicle's audio system. The RSE system consists of the radio with DVD player, a video display screen, audio/video jacks, two wireless headphones, and a remote control. To use the remote control, aim it at the transmitter window at the rear of the overhead console and press the desired button. The infrared module receives the signals from the remote control and sends the desired function via the IR remote control signal and return circuits to the radio. The radio responds by performing the specific function requested by the remote control.

Circuit/System Verification
Important: Test or replace the remote control batteries before performing the circuit/system test.
Ignition ON, radio ON, rear seat entertainment (RSE) ON, verify the system operates with a known good remote control.
If the known good remote control operates properly, replace the suspect remote control.
Circuit/System Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the infrared module.
2. Ignition ON, radio ON, RSE ON, verify a test lamp illuminates between the signal circuit terminal 16 and ground.
• If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or and open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the radio.
3. Ignition ON, radio OFF, RSE OFF, verify a test lamp does not illuminate between the signal circuit terminal 9 and ground.
• If the test lamp illuminates, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the radio.
4. Ignition OFF, verify a test lamp illuminates between B+ and the signal circuit terminal 6.
• If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the radio.
5. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X3 harness connector at the radio.
6. Verify a test lamp does not illuminate between B+ and the signal circuit terminal 5.
• If the test lamp illuminates, test the signal circuit for a short to ground.
7. If all circuits test normal, replace the infrared module.
