Instrument Panel Carrier Replacement




Instrument Panel Carrier Replacement

Removal Procedure

Warning: Refer to SIR Warning (SIR Warning).
Warning: Refer to Battery Disconnect Warning (Service Precautions).
1. Disconnect the battery negative cable(s). Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Service and Repair).
2. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling (Service and Repair).
3. Remove the drivers knee bolster. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Replacement (Service and Repair).
4. Remove the drivers knee bolster bracket. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement (Service and Repair).
5. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) cluster trim plate bezel. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate Bezel Replacement (Service and Repair).
6. Remove the instrument cluster assembly. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement (Service and Repair).
7. Remove the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement (Steering Column Replacement).
8. Remove the left hinge pillar trim panel. Refer to Body Hinge Pillar Trim Panel Replacement (Service and Repair).
9. Remove the right hinge pillar trim panel. Refer to Body Hinge Pillar Trim Panel Replacement (Service and Repair).
10. Remove the passenger knee bolster. Refer to Passenger Knee Bolster Replacement (Service and Repair).
11. Remove the passenger knee bolster bracket. Refer to Passenger Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement (Service and Repair).
12. Remove the body control module (BCM). Refer to Body Control Module Replacement (Service and Repair).
13. Remove the I/P upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement (Service and Repair).
14. Remove the instrument panel SIR module. Refer to Instrument Panel Inflatable Restraint Module Replacement (Service and Repair).
15. Remove the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement (Service and Repair).
16. Remove the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement (Service and Repair).
17. Remove the heater and the A/C control. Refer to Heater and Air Conditioning Control Replacement (Heater and Air Conditioning Control Replacement).
18. Remove the bolts that retain the I/P carrier to the vehicle.
19. Rotate the I/P carrier out and downward in order to gain access to the HVAC ducts and the electrical harness.




20. Remove the bolts that retain the air ducts to the I/P carrier.
21. Remove the HVAC air distribution duct from the I/P carrier. Refer to Air Distributor Duct Replacement (Air Distributor Duct Replacement).
22. Note the location and positioning of the Instrument Panel Wiring harness.
23. Remove the wiring harness from the I/P carrier.




24. Remove the I/P carrier from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure




1. Position the I/P carrier to the vehicle.
2. Install the wiring harness to the I/P carrier as noted in the removal procedure.




3. Install the HVAC air distribution duct to the I/P carrier. Refer to Air Distributor Duct Replacement (Air Distributor Duct Replacement).
4. Carefully rotate the I/P carrier up and install the additional components.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

5. Install the bolts that retain the I/P carrier to the vehicle and tighten to 50 Nm (37 lb ft).
6. Install the heater and the A/C control. Refer to Heater and Air Conditioning Control Replacement (Heater and Air Conditioning Control Replacement).
7. Install the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement (Service and Repair).
8. Install the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement (Service and Repair).
9. Install the instrument panel SIR module. Refer to Instrument Panel Inflatable Restraint Module Replacement (Service and Repair).
10. Install the I/P upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement (Service and Repair).
11. Install the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement (Service and Repair).
12. Install the passenger knee bolster bracket. Refer to Passenger Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement (Service and Repair).
13. Install the passenger knee bolster. Refer to Passenger Knee Bolster Replacement (Service and Repair).
14. Install the right hinge pillar trim panel. Refer to Body Hinge Pillar Trim Panel Replacement (Service and Repair).
15. Install the left hinge pillar trim panel. Refer to Body Hinge Pillar Trim Panel Replacement (Service and Repair).
16. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement (Steering Column Replacement).
17. Install the instrument cluster assembly. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement (Service and Repair).
18. Install the I/P cluster trim plate bezel. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate Bezel Replacement (Service and Repair).
19. Install the drivers knee bolster bracket. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement (Service and Repair).
20. Install the drivers knee bolster. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Replacement (Service and Repair).
21. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling (Service and Repair).
22. Connect the battery negative cable(s). Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Service and Repair).
23. Refer to Control Module References (Programming and Relearning) for programing and set up of the modules and instrument cluster that were removed.
