P2269
DTC P2269
Diagnostic Instructions
* Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle (Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview) prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
* Review Strategy Based Diagnosis (Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview) for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
* Diagnostic Procedure Instructions (Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview) provide an overview of each diagnostic category.
DTC Descriptor
DTC P2269
- Water in Fuel
Circuit/System Description
A sensor/switch mounted in the bottom of the fuel filter housing is used to detect water in the fuel. The water in fuel (WIF) sensor/switch has a signal circuit and a low reference circuit. The engine control module (ECM) monitors the voltage to the WIF sensor/switch. If the voltage is incorrect, the WIF lamp will illuminate or WATER IN FUEL SERVICE REQUIRED will display on the driver information center (DIC) as applicable, and set this DTC.
Conditions for Running the DTC
* The engine is running.
* The diagnostic runs continuously.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
* The engine is running.
* The WIF sensor/switch voltage is less than 0.20 volt for more than 60 seconds.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
DTC P2269 is Type C DTC.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
DTC P2269 is Type C DTC.
Diagnostic Aids
* If DTC P2269 sets intermittently, fuel contamination may be the cause. Refer to Contaminants-in-Fuel Diagnosis (Contaminants-in-Fuel Diagnosis).
* On vehicle with a WIF float switch, a sticking float may illuminate the WIF lamp and set this DTC.

Circuit/System Verification
1. Observe the Water in Fuel Sensor voltage parameter with a scan tool. The parameter should read No Water.
2. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data.
Circuit/System Testing
If any DTCs other than P2269 are set, refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle (Diagnostic Trouble Code Descriptions).
Important: The WIF lamp should be illuminated with this DTC. If the WIF lamp is not illuminated, refer to Water in Fuel Indicator Malfunction (Water in Fuel Indicator Malfunction).
1. Turn OFF the ignition and drain the fuel filter. Refer to Water-in-Fuel Draining (Service and Repair).
2. Turn ON the ignition and clear the DTC.
3. Start and run the engine.
• If this DTC resets, test for fuel contamination. Refer to Contaminants-in-Fuel Diagnosis (Contaminants-in-Fuel Diagnosis) and Water in Fuel Indicator Malfunction (Water in Fuel Indicator Malfunction).
Repair Instructions
Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification (Verification Tests) after completing the diagnostic procedure.
