Upper Oil Pan Replacement

Tools Required

J 37228 Seal Cutter

Removal Procedure




1. Remove the oil level indicator tube.
2. Remove the lower oil pan.
3. Remove the engine flywheel.
4. Remove the front engine crossmember.
5. Remove the 2 flywheel housing to upper oil pan bolts.




6. Remove the upper oil pan bolts and any brackets. Mark the bolt location of the bracket.
7. Separate the upper oil pan from the engine block using the J 37228.
8. Remove the upper oil pan.

Installation Procedure




1. Apply a 2-3 mm (0.79-0.118 in) wide by 0.5-1.5 mm (0.02-0.06 in) bead of sealant to the upper oil pan mating surfaces. Refer to Sealers, Adhesives, and Lubricants.
2. Apply a 2-3 mm (0.79-0.118 in) wide by 0.5-1.5 mm (0.02-0.06 in) bead of sealant to the flywheel housing sealing surface. Refer to Sealers, Adhesives, and Lubricants.




3. Install the upper oil pan to the engine block.





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.

4. Install any brackets and the upper oil pan bolts.

Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).




5. Install the 2 flywheel housing to upper oil pan bolts.

Tighten the bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

6. Install the front engine crossmember.
7. Install the engine flywheel.
8. Install the lower oil pan.
9. Install the oil level indicator tube.
