Water Pump: Service and Repair



Water Pump Replacement (6.6L)

Removal Procedure






1. Remove the thermostat bypass pipes. Refer to Thermostat Bypass Pipes Replacement, Service and Repair
2. Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement, Service and Repair
3. Remove the water pump to water pump outlet pipe nuts (2).






4. Remove the water pump nuts/bolts.
- Note the location of the bolts. The bolts are different lengths.
5. Remove the water pump.
6. Remove and discard the water pump O-ring and the water pump outlet pipe gasket.

Installation Procedure






1. Lubricate the water pump O-ring with engine oil.
2. Install the water pump outlet pipe gasket and water pump O-ring. 3. Install the water pump.

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the ser4vice procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque� and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

4. Install the water pump nuts/bolts. Ensure the correct length bolt is used in the proper location. Tighten the nuts/bolts to 21 Nm (15 lb ft).






5. Install the water pump to water pump outlet pipe nuts (2). Tighten the nuts to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).
6. Install the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement, Service and Repair
7. Install the thermostat bypass pipes. Refer to Thermostat Bypass Pipes Replacement, Service and Repair
