Valve Lifter Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the engine cover.
2. Remove the air cleaner.
3. Remove the upper radiator fan shroud.
4. Remove the radiator fan.
5. Remove the upper valve rocker covers.
6. Remove the lower valve rocker covers.





7. Remove the cylinder head.
8. Loosen the valve lifter guide retainer bolts.
9. Remove the valve lifter guide retainers.
10. Remove the valve lifter guides.
11. Remove the valve lifters.
12. If required, clean and inspect the lifters. Refer to Valve Lifters Cleaning and Inspection.

Installation Procedure





1. Apply clean engine oil to the roller and outside of the valve lifter.
2. Install the valve lifter.
3. Install the valve lifter guides.
4. Install the valve lifter guide retainer.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

5. Install the valve lifter guide retainer bolt.
Tighten the bolt to 11 Nm (97 inch lbs.).
6. Install the cylinder head.
7. Install the radiator fan.
8. Install the upper radiator fan shroud.
9. Install the air cleaner.
10. Install the engine cover.
11. Install the lower valve rocker covers.
12. Install the upper valve rocker covers.
