Radiator Hose Replacement - Outlet (LLY)
Removal Procedure
Tools Required
^ J38185 Hose Clamp Pliers
Caution: To avoid being burned, do not remove the radiator cap or surge tank cap while the engine is hot. The cooling system will release scalding fluid and steam under pressure if radiator cap or surge tank cap is removed while the engine and radiator are still hot.
1. Partially drain the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System (Static Fill) Draining and Filling Cooling System (Vac N Fill).
2. Using J38185, reposition the radiator outlet hose clamp at the surge tank.
3. Remove the radiator outlet hose from the surge tank.
4. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
5. Using J38185, reposition the heater hose to radiator outlet hose clamp.
6. Remove the heater hose from the radiator outlet hose.
7. Remove the radiator outlet hose to radiator retaining clip.
8. Remove the radiator outlet hose from the radiator.
9. Loosen the clamp on the radiator outlet hose to engine.
10. Remove the radiator outlet hose from the engine.
11. Remove the radiator outlet hose from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
Important: Lubricate the inside diameters of the hoses with clean coolant prior to installation.
1. Install the radiator outlet hose to the engine.
Notice: Refer to Component Fastener Tightening Notice.
2. Tighten the clamp on the radiator outlet hose to engine.
Tighten the clamp to 5 Nm (44 inch lbs.).
Important: Ensure the radiator retaining clip seats firmly into the groove in the radiator.
3. Install the radiator outlet hose to the radiator.
4. Install the heater hose to the radiator outlet hose.
5. Using J38185, reposition the heater hose to radiator outlet hose clamp.
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Install the radiator outlet hose to the surge tank.
8. Using J38185, reposition the radiator outlet hose clamp at the surge tank.
9. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System (Static Fill) Draining and Filling Cooling System (Vac N Fill).
10. Leak test the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Leak Testing Component Tests and General Diagnostics
