Grid Line Repair
GRID LINE REPAIRTOOLS REQUIRED
J 25070 Heat Gun
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
CAUTION:
- To avoid personal injury:
- Do not allow the repair material to come in contact with skin or eyes and avoid breathing vapors.
- Do not use near sparks or open flame.
- Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.
1. Disconnect the rear window defogger system battery feed and ground wires.
IMPORTANT:
- Ensure the rear window defogger repair kit materials have not passed the expiration date.
- Ensure the rear window is at room temperature.
1. Wipe the repair area with denatured alcohol in order to clean the area of all contaminates.
2. Install the grid line repair decal or 2 strips of tape positioned above and below the repair area.
3. Use the repair decal or tape in order to control the width of the repair area.
4. If you are using decal, verify the die-cut metering slot is the same width as the grid line.
5. Mix the grid repair material until a uniform color appears.
6. Verify the window is room temperature.
7. Apply the grid repair material (1) to the repair area.
IMPORTANT: Once the grid line repair material (1) is applied, ensure there are no air bubbles in the repair area.
8. Carefully remove the decal (2) or tape.
9. If using a J 25070 , hold the J 25070 25-50 mm (1/2 in) (2) away from the repair area for 2-3 minutes.
NOTE: The grid line repair material must be cured with heat. To avoid heat damage to the interior trim, protect the trim near the repair area where heat is to be applied.
IMPORTANT:
- Use a J 25070 in order to provide a fast cure of the grid line repair material.
- Use a heat gun capable of 260-371°C (500-700°F).
- The grid line repair material will cure in 24 hours with a constant temperature of 21-32°C (70-90°F), without the use of a J 25070.
10. Connect the negative battery cable.
11. Test the rear window defogger operation in order to verify the grid line repair.
IMPORTANT:
- Allow a minimum of 24 hours for complete curing of the repair materials.
- Do not physically disturb the repair area until after a minimum of 24 hours.
- Operating the rear window defogger before the elapse of 24 hours is not prohibited.
