Gearshift Control Lever Replacement

Removal Procedure
1. Position the shift lever in the Neutral position.
2. Remove the shifter knob from the lever.
3. Remove the 4 boot retaining plate bolts and plate.

Important: To ease the removal of the shifter boot push the boot down slightly to expose the inner shaft then lube the shaft and boot with Synthetic Multipurpose Lubricant GM PIN 12346241 (Canadian P/N 10953474) or equivalent.

4. Remove the shifter boot from the shift lever
5. Using needle nose pliers, remove the boot clamp.
6. Slide the shift lever boot upward off of the transmission.
7. Remove the 2 shift lever retaining bolts from the shift tower.
8. Slowly pull the shift lever straight up to remove the lever from the transmission.

Installation Procedure
1. Using a vise and a needle nose pliers, compress the locking retainer and spring assembly.
2. Install the lever into the transmission shift tower.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Install the 2 lock retainer retaining bolts.
^ Tighten the 2 bolts to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.)
4. Install the lower shift lever boot onto the shift tower.
5. Install the lower shift lever boot clamp.

Important: To ease the installation of the shifter boot, lube the shaft and boot with Synthetic Multipurpose Lubricant GM P/N 12346241 (Canadian P/N 10953474) or equivalent.

6. Install the shifter boot on the shift lever.
7. Install the 4 boot retaining plate and bolts.
^ Tighten the 4 bolts to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
8. Install the shifter knob on the lever.
