34. Oil Pump and Torque Converter Housing Installation

^ Tools Required
- J 8001 Dial Indicator Set
- J 26900-13 Magnetic Base
- J 36850 Transjel(R) Transmission Assembly Lubricant

1. Lubricate a new O-ring with A/T fluid.
2. Install the new O-ring to the overdrive case.





3. Install the torque converter housing (1) to the transmission case.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

4. Install the converter housing bolts (2).
^ Tighten the bolts (4) to 36 Nm (27 ft. lbs.).
^ Tighten the bolts (3) to 58 Nm (43 ft. lbs.).





5. Apply J 36850 to the thrust front race.
6. Install the thrust front race to the overdrive clutch drum.
7. Apply J 36850 to the thrust bearing and race.
8. Install the thrust bearing and race to the oil pump.





9. Lubricate the outer oil pump O-ring with A/T fluid.
10. Install the oil pump to the transmission case.
11. Apply sealant (1) to the oil pump bolts (2).





12. Install the oil pump bolts (1), aligning the holes in the oil pump with those in the transmission case.
^ Tighten the bolts to 22 Nm (16 ft. lbs.).





13. Apply low air pressure to each oil circuit hole in order to inspect the operation of each of the following internal components:
^ The overdrive clutch
^ The overdrive brake
^ The forward clutch
^ The direct clutch
^ The B1 (second coast) brake
^ The B2 (second) brake
^ The reverse brake





14. Measure the output shaft end play using J 8001 (1,3) and J 26900-13 (2).
^ Output shaft end play (standard): 0.30-0.90 mm (0.012-0.035 inch)
