30. Planetary Gears and Output Shaft Installation

^ Tools Required
- J 36850 Transjel(TM) Transmission Assembly Lubricant





1. Install the output shaft thrust bearing and race (1) to the transmission case.
2. Lubricate the thrust bearing and race with J 36850.





3. Install the brake applying tube (1) and leaf spring (3) to the transmission case. Align the tube lug (2) with the cutout in the case (4).





4. Install the planetary gear/output shaft (1) together to the transmission case.
5. Install the reverse brake plates and discs in the following order:
5.1. The plate
5.2. The disc
5.3. The plate
5.4. The disc
5.5. The plate
5.6. The disc
5.7. The plate
5.8. The disc





6. Measure the reverse brake plate-to-transmission case lug clearance:
6.1. Take the measurement:
^ Reverse brake plate-to-transmission case lug clearance (standard): 0.72-2.50 mm (0.029-0.098 inch)
6.2. If clearance is less than the specification, perform the following steps:
^ Inspect for proper installation.
^ Inspect for dust or fluid on the reverse brake disc.
6.3. If clearance is more than the specification, replace one of the following components:
^ The reverse brake disc
^ The reverse brake plate
^ The reverse backing plate
7. Install the reverse brake reaction plate to the transmission case.





8. Align the notch in the reverse brake reaction plate with the leaf spring (1).





9. Install the snap ring (1) to the front of the reverse brake reaction plate (2).
