Steering Column Lock and Ignition Switch Cylinder ReplacementRemoval Procedure
Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in Service Precautions.
1. Disable the SIR.
2. Remove the steering column trim covers.
3. Disconnect the ignition switch connector.
4. If the vehicle has an automatic transmission, complete the following steps:
4.1. Verify the shift lever is in PARK.
4.2. Remove the screw (1) from the park lock cable.
4.3. Disconnect the park lock cable from the steering column lock and ignition switch cylinder.
5. Remove the steering column lock bolts (1) using a center punch or a screw extractor.
6. Insert the key. Turn the key to the ACC position or to the ON position.
7. Remove the steering column lock and ignition switch cylinder from the steering column.
Installation Procedure
1. Position the hole in the steering shaft in the center of the hole in the steering column jacket (2).
2. Insert the key. Turn the key to the ACC position or to the ON position.
3. Position the steering column lock and ignition switch cylinder on the steering column.
4. Turn the key to the LOCK position. Remove the key.
5. Place the hub of the lock in the hole in the steering shaft.
6. Rotate the steering shaft (1) in order to verify the steering shaft locks.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
7. Install 2 NEW steering column lock bolts to the steering column lock and ignition switch cylinder.
Tighten the bolts until the bolt heads break off.
8. Insert the key. Turn the key to the ACC position or to the ON position.
9. Rotate the shaft in order to verify the shaft rotates smoothly.
10. Turn the key to the LOCK position. Remove the key.
11. Rotate the shaft in order to verify the shaft locks.
12. If the vehicle has an automatic transmission, connect the automatic transmission park lock cable (2) to the steering column lock and ignition switch cylinder.
13. Install the screw (1).
Tighten the screw to 2.2 Nm (19.5 inch lbs.).
14. Connect the ignition switch connector.
15. Install the steering column trim covers.
16. Enable the SIR.
