Oil Pump: Service and Repair
Oil Pump ReplacementRemoval Procedure
Notice: Do not damage the oil pan contact surface of the lower cylinder block when removing the oil pan.
1. Remove the oil pan.
2. Remove the 3 bolts and the oil pump strainer.
3. Remove the 4 bolts and the oil pump drive chain cover (1).
4. Remove the 3 bolts and the oil pump.
5. Clean the following components:
- The inside of the engine oil pan
- The oil pump strainer screen
- The mating surfaces of the engine oil pan and the lower cylinder block
- The oil pump
6. If necessary, remove the 2 nuts (2) and the oil pump chain guide (1). The chain tension will have to be adjusted if the guide is removed or if the chain is replaced.
Installation Procedure
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
1. Install the oil pump to the lower crankcase. Secure with the 3 bolts.
- Tighten the 3 bolts to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.).
2. If removed, install the oil pump chain guide (1). The chain tension will have to be adjusted if the guide is removed or if the chain is replaced. Install the 2 nuts finger tight.
3. Insert a 0.5 mm (0.020 inch) feeler gauge (3) between the chain and the chain guide.
4. Adjust the chain tension by holding the chain guide against the chain with a force of 20 - 30 Newtons (4.4 - 6.6 lb.).
5. Tighten the nuts while holding this tension.
6. Install the oil pump drive chain cover (1). Secure with the 4 bolts.
- Tighten the 4 bolts to 11 Nm (97 inch lbs.).
7. Install new O-rings and install the oil pump strainer to the oil pump.
8. Install and tighten the 2 strainer bolts first and then the bracket bolt.
- Tighten the 3 bolts to 11 Nm (97 inch lbs.).
9. Install the oil pan.
