Turn Signal Cancel Cam and Upper Bearing Thrust WasherTools Required

Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in Service Precautions.
1. Disable the SIR system.
Important: Let the SIR coil hang freely after removal.
2. Remove the SIR coil.
3. Remove and discard the bearing retainer using J23653-SIR and J42137.
4. If standard column, remove the following parts from the steering shaft assembly:
4.1. The cam orientation plate (4)
4.2. The turn signal cancel cam assembly (3)
4.3. The upper bearing spring (2)
4.4. The thrust washer (1)
5. If tilt column, remove the following parts from the steering column shaft assembly:
5.1. The cam orientation plate (5)
5.2. The turn signal cancel cam assembly (4)
5.3. The upper bearing spring (3)
5.4. The upper bearing inner race seat (2)
5.5. The inner race (1)
Installation Procedure
1. If standard column, install the following parts onto the steering shaft assembly:
1.1. The thrust washer (1)
1.2. The upper bearing spring (2)
1.3. Lubricate the turn signal cancel cam assembly (3) with GM P/N 12377900 (Canadian P/N 10953529).
1.4. The turn signal cancel cam assembly (3) onto the steering shaft assembly
1.5. The cam orientation plate (4) onto the steering shaft assembly
2. If tilt column, install the following parts onto the steering column shaft assembly:
2.1. Lubricate the inner race (1) with GM P/N 12345718 (Canadian P/N 10953516)
2.2. The inner race (1)
2.3. The upper bearing inner race seat (2)
2.4. The upper bearing spring (3)
2.5. Lubricate the turn signal cancel cam assembly (4) with GM P/N 12377900 (Canadian P/N 10953529
2.6. The turn signal cancel cam assembly (4) onto the steering shaft assembly
2.7. The cam orientation plate (5)
3. Install the new bearing retainer onto the steering shaft assembly.
4. Compress the cam orientation plate using J23653-SIR and J42137.
5. Firmly seat the bearing retainer into the groove on the steering shaft assembly.
6. Remove J23653-SIR.
7. Install the SIR coil.
8. Enable the SIR system.
