Heater Core Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Drain the engine coolant. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Cooling System.
2. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
3. Remove the coolant recovery reservoir or the surge tank.
4. Remove the battery from the vehicle.
5. Remove the A/C accumulator.
6. Remove the heater hoses from the heater core.




7. Remove the screws from the heater case.
8. CAREFULLY open the heater core access door in order to cut the heater core access door.
9. Cut the marked section of the heater core access door.




10. Remove the retainers from the heater core.
11. Remove the heater core from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Install the heater core to the vehicle.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the retainers to the heater core.

Tighten
Tighten the screws to 1.9 N.m (17 lb in).




3. Install the heater core access door.
4. Install the retaining screws into the heater case.

Tighten
Tighten the screws to 1.9 N.m (17 lb in).




5. Install the heater hoses to the heater core.
6. Install the A/C accumulator.
7. Install the battery to the vehicle.
8. Install the coolant recovery reservoir or the surge tank.
9. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
10. Fill the engine coolant. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Cooling System.
