TOOLS REQUIREDJ 39194-B Heated Oxygen Sensor Wrench
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
NOTE:
^ Refer to HO2S Pigtail Notice in Service Precautions.
^ Refer to Excessive Force and Oxygen Sensor Notice in Service Precautions.
IMPORTANT: It may be necessary to lower the exhaust system to gain sufficient access to a HO2S and/or the connector.
1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
2. Disconnect the HO2S electrical connector (1).
3. Using the J 39194-B, carefully back out the HO2S (2).
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
IMPORTANT: A special anti-seize compound is used on the HO2S threads. The compound consists of graphite suspended in fluid and glass beads. The graphite will burn away, but the glass beads will remain, making the sensor easier to remove. New or service sensors will already have the compound applied to the threads. If a sensor is removed from an engine and if for any reason is to be reinstalled, the threads must have anti-seize compound applied before reinstallation.
1. Coat the threads of the HO2S with anti-seize compound P/N 12377953, or equivalent if necessary.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
2. Using the J 39194-B, install the HO2S (2).
Tighten
Tighten the HO2S to 41 N.m (30 lb ft).
3. Connect the HO2S electrical connector (1).
4. Lower the vehicle.
