Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Right

Exhaust Manifold Replacement Right
Removal Procedure





1. Remove the oil level indicator tube.
2. If equipped, remove the secondary air injection (AIR) pipe nut from the fuel rail stud.
3. If equipped, remove the AIR pipe bolts from the exhaust manifold.
4. If equipped, disconnect the AIR pipe from the AIR pump pipe.
5. If equipped, remove the AIR pipe.





6. If equipped, remove the AIR pump pipe bolt from the cylinder head.
7. If equipped, remove the AIR pump pipe.
8. Remove the spark plugs.





9. Remove the EGR pipe nuts from the exhaust manifold.
10. Remove and discard the EGR pipe gasket.





11. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield bolts and nuts.
12. Reposition the exhaust manifold heat shield.
13. Raise and suitably support the vehicle with safety stands. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.





14. Remove the right catalytic converter.
15. Disconnect the knock sensor electrical connector (1).





16. Remove the exhaust manifold bolt and nuts.
17. Remove the exhaust manifold and heat shield.
18. Remove and discard the exhaust manifold gasket.

Installation Procedure





1. Install a NEW exhaust manifold gasket.
2. Install the exhaust manifold and heat shield.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Install the exhaust manifold bolt and nuts.
^ Tighten the exhaust manifold bolt to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).
^ Tighten the exhaust manifold nuts to 16 Nm (12 ft. lbs.).





4. Connect the knock sensor electrical connector (1).
5. Install the right catalytic converter.





6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Position the exhaust manifold heat shield.
8. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield bolts and nuts.
^ Tighten the exhaust manifold heat shield bolts and nuts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).





9. Install a NEW EGR pipe gasket.
10. Install the EGR pipe nuts to the exhaust manifold until snug.
^ Tighten the EGR pipe nuts to the exhaust manifold to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).
11. Install the spark plugs.





12. If equipped, install the AIR pump pipe.
13. If equipped, install the AIR pump pipe bolt to the cylinder head.
^ Tighten the AIR pump pipe bolt to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).





14. If equipped, install the AIR pipe.
15. If equipped, connect the AIR pipe to the AIR pump pipe.
16. If equipped, install the AIR pipe bolts to the exhaust manifold.
^ Tighten the AIR pipe bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
17. If equipped, Install the AIR pipe nut to the fuel rail stud.
^ Tighten the AIR pipe nut to 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.).
18. Install the oil level indicator tube.
