Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Left
Removal Procedure1. Remove the left catalytic converter.
2. Lower the vehicle.
3. Remove the engine cover.
4. If equipped, remove the secondary air injection (AIR) pipe nut from the fuel rail stud.
5. If equipped, remove the AIR pipe bolts from the exhaust manifold.
6. If equipped, disconnect the AIR pipe from the AIR pump pipe.
7. If equipped, remove the AIR pipe.
8. Remove the spark plugs.
9. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield bolts and nuts.
10. Reposition the exhaust manifold heat shield.
11. Raise and suitably support the vehicle with safety stands. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
12. Remove the exhaust manifold bolt and nuts.
13. Remove the exhaust manifold and heat shield.
14. Remove and discard the exhaust manifold gasket.
Installation Procedure
1. Install a NEW exhaust manifold gasket.
2. Install the exhaust manifold and heat shield.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
3. Install the exhaust manifold bolt and nuts.
^ Tighten the exhaust manifold bolt to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).
^ Tighten the exhaust manifold nuts to 16 Nm (12 ft. lbs.).
4. Lower the vehicle.
5. Position the exhaust manifold heat shield.
6. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield bolts and nuts.
^ Tighten the exhaust manifold heat shield bolts and nuts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
7. Install the spark plugs.
8. If equipped, install the AIR pipe.
9. If equipped, connect the AIR pipe to the AIR pump pipe.
10. If equipped, install the AIR pipe bolts to the exhaust manifold.
^ Tighten the AIR pipe bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
11. If equipped, install the AIR pipe nut to the fuel rail stud.
^ Tighten the AIR pipe nut to 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.).
12. Install the engine cover.
13. Raise the engine.
14. Install the left catalytic converter.
