Engine Oil Dip Stick - Dip Stick Tube: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure





1. Remove the oil level indicator from the oil level indicator tube.





2. Remove the upper oil level indicator tube bolt.
3. Remove the upper oil level indicator tube from the lower tube.
4. Remove the engine cover.





5. Loosen the oil level indicator tube bracket nut.
6. Remove the oil level indicator tube bracket from the exhaust manifold stud.
7. Remove the oil level indicator tube.
8. Remove the O-ring seal from the indicator tube.

Installation Procedure





1. Install a NEW O-ring seal onto the oil level indicator tube.
2. Install the oil level indicator tube into the oil pan.
3. Install the oil level indicator tube bracket to the exhaust manifold stud.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

4. Tighten the oil level indicator tube bracket nut.
^ Tighten the oil level indicator tube nut to 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.).
5. Install the engine cover.





6. Apply sealer GM P/N 9985409 or equivalent to the upper oil level indicator tube.
7. Install the upper oil level indicator tube to the lower tube.
8. Install the upper oil level indicator tube bolt.
^ Tighten the upper oil level indicator tube bracket bolt to 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.).





9. Install the oil level indicator to the oil level indicator tube.
