Wastegate Actuator: Service and Repair

WASTEGATE ACTUATOR REPLACEMENT

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Open the hood.

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Remove the engine cover.
4. Remove the turbocharger heat shield mounting bolts.
5. Remove the turbocharger heat shield.
6. Remove the vacuum line to the wastegate actuator.




7. Remove the wastegate actuator mounting bolt under the right side of the turbocharger.




8. Remove the wastegate actuator.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Install the wastegate actuator.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

IMPORTANT: Use thread sealant GM P/N 12345739 on the actuator bolt thread.




2. Install the wastegate actuator mounting bolt.

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 23 N.m (17 lb ft).




3. Install the turbocharger heat shield.

IMPORTANT: Use a thread locker GM P/N 12345382 on the heat shield bolts and nut.

4. Install the turbocharger heat shield mounting bolts and nut.

Tighten
4.1. Tighten the bolts (right and top) to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).
4.2. Tighten the center bolts to 22 N.m (16 lb ft).
4.3. Tighten the heat shield nut to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).

5. Install the wastegate actuator vacuum line.
6. Connect the negative battery cable.
7. Start the engine and check the operation of the wastegate actuator.
8. Install the engine cover.
9. Close the hood.
