Valve Lifter Replacement

- Tools Required
- J 3049 Valve Lifter Remover

Removal Procedure





1. Remove the intake manifold.
2. Remove the valve push rods.

Important: The valve lifters and guides must be installed in the same location from which they were removed.

3. Remove the valve lifter guide retainer and the valve lifter guides.





4. Remove the valve lifters one at a time.
5. Place the valve lifters and valve lifter guides in an organizer rack.





6. A stuck valve lifter can be removed using the J 3049.

Installation Procedure

Important:
- When new valve lifters or a new camshaft is installed, change the engine oil and the oil filter.
- Add Engine Oil Supplement GM P/N 1051396 or the equivalent to the engine oil.
- Replace all the valve lifters when a new camshaft is installed.





1. Install the valve lifters one at a time.
2. Install the valve push rods.
3. Install the intake manifold.
