Torque Converter: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure





1. Remove the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement - 2WD or to Transmission Replacement - 4WD.
2. Remove the torque converter (1) from transmission.
3. Remove the torque converter seal bolts from transmission.
4. Remove the torque converter seal from transmission.
5. Remove the input shaft seal from input shaft.


Installation Procedure





1. Install the Input shaft seal to input shaft.
2. Install the torque converter seal to transmission.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice Service Precautions.

3. Install the converter seal bolts to transmission.
^ Tighten the torque converter seals bolts to 3 Nm (26 inch lbs.).
4. Install the torque converter (1) to the transmission. Push the torque converter into position while rotating. The torque converter must be fully seated.
5. Install the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement - 2WD or to Transmission Replacement - 4WD.
