58. Timing Chain Housing Installation

1. Clean the sealing surfaces on the timing chain housing, the cylinder head, the oil pan, the engine block and the lower crankcase.





2. Inspect the front crank seal. Replace as necessary. Refer to Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Removal and Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Installation.





3. Apply a continuous bead of GM PAN 12345997 or equivalent to the following:
^ The cylinder head-engine block mating points (2).
^ The timing cover mating surface (1).

4. Lubricate the new crankshaft front oil seal with Chassis Grease GM P/N 1051344 or equivalent.
5. Install the dowel pin to the timing chain housing.





6. Install the timing chain housing. Secure with the nut and 15 bolts.
^ Tighten the nut and bolts to 11 Nm (97 inch lbs.).
