Harmonic Balancer - Crankshaft Pulley: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure

^ Tools Required
- J8614-01 Pinion Flange Holder
1. Remove the cooling fan drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement (Cooling Fan).
2. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement (Accessory).
3. Remove the cooling fan. Refer to Fan Replacement.
4. Remove the radiator. Refer to Radiator Replacement.

Important: Do not damage the A/C condenser (if equipped) during crankshaft pulley service.





5. Remove the crankshaft pulley retaining bolt using the J8614-01 to prevent crankshaft rotation when loosening the bolt.





6. The crankshaft may also be held by locking the flywheel through the access hole (1).





7. Remove the crankshaft pulley.

Installation Procedure
1. Lubricate the front seal and the sealing surface of the crankshaft pulley with Chassis Grease GM P/N 1051344 or equivalent.





2. Install the crankshaft pulley onto the crankshaft indexing the keyway.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





3. Install the crankshaft pulley retaining bolt using the J8614-01 to prevent crankshaft rotation when tightening the bolt.
^ Tighten the bolt to 150 Nm (109 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the radiator. Refer to Radiator Replacement.
5. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement (Accessory).
6. Install the cooling fan drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement (Cooling Fan).
7. Install the cooling fan. Refer to Fan Replacement.
