37. Rear Adapter Case, Vehicle Speed Sensor Install

^ Tools Required
- J 35538 Axle Shaft Seal Installer

1. Install the key-way to the output shaft.
2. Install the output shaft sensor ring.
3. Install a new oil seal to the adapter case using the J 35538.





4. Install a new gasket to the adapter case (1).
5. Install the adapter case to the rear of the transmission.
6. Install the six adapter case bolts (2).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

^ Tighten the bolts to 36 Nm (27 ft. lbs.).
7. Lubricate a new Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) O-ring with A/T fluid.
8. Install the new O-ring to the VSS.
9. Install the VSS to the adapter case.
10. Install the VSS bolt.
^ Tighten the bolt to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.).
