Starter Motor Replacement
REMOVAL PROCEDURECAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the air cleaner hose.
3. Disconnect the starter solenoid electrical connector.
4. Remove the retaining nut and positive battery cable (3) from the starter solenoid.
5. The starter motor on manual transmission equipped vehicles are secured with 2 bolts. The starter motor on automatic transmission equipped vehicles are secured with a lower bolt and an upper nut and bolt. Remove the upper mounting bolt (1) and the negative battery cable from the starter motor assembly.
6. Remove the lower mounting bolt (1) and the starter motor assembly from the vehicle.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the starter motor assembly to the vehicle.
2. Install the lower mounting bolt.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
3. Install the upper mounting bolt and the negative battery cable.
Tighten
Tighten the starter motor assembly mounting bolts (1) to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).
4. Connect the positive battery cable (3) to the starter solenoid. Secure with one nut.
Tighten
Tighten the starter solenoid nut to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
5. Connect the starter solenoid electrical connector.
6. Install the air cleaner hose.
7. Connect the negative battery cable.
Tighten
Tighten the negative battery cable-to-negative battery terminal retainer to 15 N.m (11 lb ft).
