Cooling System Description

The engine cooling system consists of the following components:
^ The radiator
^ The radiator cap
^ The coolant reservoir
^ The coolant pipes/hoses
^ The coolant pump (8)
^ The cooling fan
^ The thermostat (2)
^ The heater core

Radiator Core
A lightweight tube and fin aluminum radiator is used in this vehicle. The air circulating between the tubes is directed by the fins to lower the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) as it flows through the tubes.

Radiator Tanks
The radiator has upper and lower tanks. The upper tank is utilized to increase the capacity and ensure a sufficient supply of coolant in the radiator to cool the engine as necessary. The transmission fluid cooler pipes run through the bottom tank of the radiator in order to cool the transmission fluid (automatic transmission equipped vehicles).

Radiator Drain Plug
The drain plug is located at the lower left of the radiator on the rear side. It is an open/close system which allows drainage of the engine coolant from the radiator.

Heater Core
The heater core is located inside the heater case in the passenger compartment. Engine coolant flows through the heater core, heating the air directed over the core, to provide warmed air flow to the vehicle's passenger compartment.
