Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Replacement

Removal Procedure





1. Raise and suitably support the hood.
2. Remove the 2 bolts (2) and the hood primary latch (3) from the front upper panel.
3. Remove the hood primary latch release cable from the hood primary latch (1).




4. Attach a piece of mechanic's wire (1) to the hood primary latch release cable (2) in order to aid in the removal and the installation of the release cable.
5. Unclip the hood primary latch release cable from the hold down clips.
6. Remove the hood primary latch release handle. Refer to Hood Release Lever Replacement (Hood Release Lever Replacement) in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
7. Pull the hood primary latch release cable through the body.
8. Remove the hood primary latch release cable from the vehicle by pulling the cable from inside the passenger compartment.

Important: The mechanic's wire should remain strung through the body in order to ease the installation of the hood latch release cable (2).


9. Remove the mechanic's wire (1) from the release cable (2).



Installation Procedure





1. Attach the mechanic's wire (1) to the hood primary latch release cable (2).
2. Guide the hood primary latch release cable through the body with the mechanic's wire.
3. Remove the mechanic's wire (1) from the hood primary latch release cable (2).
4. Install the hood primary latch release handle. Refer to Hood Release Lever Replacement (Hood Release Lever Replacement) in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
5. Install the hood primary latch release cable to the hold down clips.




6. Install the hood primary latch release cable to the hood primary latch (1).
7. Install the hood primary latch (1) to the front upper panel. Secure the latch with the 2 retaining bolts. Do not fully tighten the bolts.
8. Adjust the hood primary latch (1) in order to ensure that the striker shaft lines up with the center groove of the hood primary latch (1).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

9. Adjust the hood primary latch (1) in order to ensure that the hood is flush with the front fenders. Refer to Body Panel Adjustment (Adjustments) .

Tighten the hood latch retaining bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in)

10. Lower the hood.
