Brake Pads Replacement - Front (Single Piston Caliper)
Removal ProcedureUse GM replacement brake lining material for this vehicle. GM replacement brake parts provide the proper brake balance for stopping distance and for braking control. The intended brake balance for this vehicle can change if GM replacement brake lining materials are not used.
Important: Do not disconnect the brake hose from the caliper.
1. Remove the caliper. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement - Front (Single Piston) or Brake Caliper Replacement - Front (Dual Piston).
Notice: Do not allow the brake components to hang from the flexible brake hoses. Damage to the brake hoses could result.
2. Suspend the caliper with a wire.
3. Remove the inboard lining from the caliper.
4. Remove the retainer spring from the inboard brake lining.
5. Remove the outboard lining from the caliper.
Installation Procedure
Caution: Do not move the vehicle until a firm brake pedal Is obtained. Failure to obtain a firm pedal before moving vehicle may result in personal injury.
Important: Before installing new brake pads, wipe the outside surface of the caliper boot clean. Use denatured alcohol.
1. Install the outboard lining.
2. Install the retainer spring on the inboard brake lining.
3. Install inboard lining in the caliper.
Notice: Make sure the brake hose is not twisted or kinked after installation. Damage to the hose could result.
4. Install the caliper. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement - Front (Single Piston) or Brake Caliper Replacement - Front (Dual Piston).
5. Burnish the new brake pads. Refer to Burnishing Pads and Rotors.
