Seals and Gaskets: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure





1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement - One Piece or Propeller Shaft Replacement - Two Piece.
3. Remove the rear extension oil seal.

Installation Procedure

- J 21426 Rear Extension Seal Installer





1. Install the new seal using J 21426 Rear Extension Seal Installer.
2. Coat the outer edge of the seal case with the non-hardening sealer provided.
3. Coat the seal lips with Transjel.
4. Install the propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement - One Piece or Propeller Shaft Replacement - Two Piece.
5. Lower the vehicle.
6. Fill the transmission to the proper level with Dexron III Transmission Fluid. Refer to Transmission Fluid Checking Procedure.
