Control Arm Bushing: Service and Repair
- Tools Required- J9519-E Ball Joint Remover/Installer Set
Removal Procedure
1. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle with suitable safety stands.
Caution: Floor jack must remain under the lower control arm during removal and installation to retain the lower control arm in position. Failure to do so could result in personal injury.
2. Support the lower control arm with safety stands.
3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment.
4. Remove the upper control arm from the vehicle. Refer to Upper Control Arm Replacement.
5. Using the J9519-17 as shown remove the upper control arm bushings from the control arm. Remove the tool.
Installation Procedure
1. Insert the new control arm bushings into the control arm.
2. Using the J9519-23 as shown install the upper control arm bushings into the control arm.
Important: Make sure the bushings are properly seated in the control arm.
3. Remove the tool.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
4. Install the upper control arm to the vehicle. Refer to Upper Control Arm Replacement.
- Tighten the nuts with the control arm at Z height. Refer to Trim Height Inspection Procedure in Suspension Diagnosis.
- Tighten the nuts to 190 Nm (140 ft. lbs.).
5. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment.
6. Remove the safety stands.
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Check the wheel alignment. Refer to Wheel Alignment Specifications in Wheel Alignment.
