Crankshaft Position Timing Ring: Service and Repair


^ Tools Required
- J 5590 Crankshaft Gear Installer

Removal Procedure




1. Disconnect the Battery Negative Terminal. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure.
2. Remove the engine front cover. Refer to Engine Front Cover Replacement.
3. Remove the crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring.


Installation Procedure

Notice: Failure to properly align the crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring may result in component damage and effect OBD II system performance.

Important: The crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring is shaped like a dish. The dish must face the engine front cover.





1. Install the crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring. Using J 5590 installer.
2. Align the keyway on the crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring with the woodruff key (crankshaft balancer) in the crankshaft.
3. Push the crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring onto the crankshaft until completely seated against the crankshaft sprocket.
4. Install the engine front cover. Refer to Engine Front Cover Replacement.
5. Install the Battery Negative Terminal. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure.
