Engine Oil Dip Stick - Dip Stick Tube: Service and Repair


Removal Procedure





1. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement.
2. Remove the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement.
3. Remove the bolt holding both oil level indicator tubes together.





4. Remove the top half of the oil level indicator tube from the bottom half.
5. Clean the old sealer from the tube.
6. Remove the spark plug for the number 4 cylinder. Refer to Spark Plug Replacement.





7. Remove the oil level indicator tube bolt.
8. Remove the oil level indicator tube from the engine using a twisting motion.
9. Clean the old sealer from the oil level indicator tube and the engine block.


Installation Procedure





1. Install the oil level indicator tube to the engine block. Refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube Installation.
2. Install the spark plug for the number 4 cylinder. Refer to Spark Plug Replacement.





3. Apply sealant, GM P/N 12346004 or equivalent, to the end of the oil level indicator tube top half.
4. Install the oil level indicator tube top half to the bottom halt.





5. Secure the engine oil level indicator tube to the transmission oil level indicator tube with the bolt.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

^ Tighten the bolt to 13 Nm (106 inch lbs.).
6. Install the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement.
7. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement.
