Valve Lifter Replacement

- J 3049-A Valve Lifter Remover
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement (Upper Manifold) or Intake Manifold Replacement (Lower Manifold).
2. Remove the valve push rods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement.
Important: The valve lifters and guides must be installed in the same location from which they were removed.
3. Remove the valve lifter guide retainer and the valve lifter guides.
4. Remove the valve lifters one at a time. Refer to Valve Lifter Removal.
5. Place the valve lifters and valve lifter guides in an organizer rack.
6. A stuck valve lifter can be removed using the J 3049-A.
Installation Procedure
Important:
^ When new valve lifters or a new camshaft is installed, change the engine oil and the oil filter. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement
^ Add Engine Oil Supplement GM P/N 1051396 or the equivalent to the engine oil.
^ Replace all the valve lifters when a new camshaft is installed.
1. Install the valve lifters one at a time. Refer to Valve Lifter Installation.
2. Install the valve push rods.
3. Install the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement (Upper Manifold) or Intake Manifold Replacement (Lower Manifold).
