Fan Shroud: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure





1. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement.
2. Remove the air intake duct from the throttle body.
3. Remove the coolant reservoir or surge tank. Refer to Coolant Recovery Reservoir Replacement or Surge Tank (Diesel) Replacement.
4. Remove the bolt securing the engine oil fill tube at the generator bracket.
5. Remove the bolt securing the engine and transmission oil dipsticks at the generator bracket.
6. Move the dipsticks and oil fill tube away from the fan shroud.
7. Remove the upper fan shroud retaining bolts from the top of the radiator.





8. Remove the upper to lower fan shroud retaining bolts.
9. Remove the upper fan shroud from the vehicle.





10. Remove the fan and the clutch from the engine. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement.
11. Remove the lower fan shroud retaining bolts.
12. Remove the lower fan shroud from the vehicle.


Installation Procedure





1. Install the lower fan shroud to the vehicle.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the retaining bolts to the lower fan shroud.
^ Tighten the lower fan shroud retaining bolts to 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.).
3. Install the fan and the clutch to the engine. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement.





4. Install the upper fan shroud to the lower fan shroud.
5. Install the upper to lower fan shroud retaining bolts.
^ Tighten the bolts to 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.).





6. Reseal the engine oil dipstick tube.
^ Apply sealer, GM P/N 12346004 or equivalent to the top end of the oil level indicator tube at the joint.
^ Install the top half of the tube into the lower half of the oil level indicator tube.
7. Install the bolt securing the engine and transmission oil dipstick at the generator bracket.
8. Install the bolt securing the engine oil fill tube at the generator bracket.





9. Install the upper fan shroud retaining bolts to the top of the radiator.
^ Tighten the bolts to 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.).
10. Install the coolant reservoir or surge tank. Refer to Coolant Recovery Reservoir Replacement or Surge Tank (Diesel) Replacement.
11. Install the air intake duct from the throttle body.
12. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement.
