Wheel Cylinder Replacement

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Brake Dust Caution in Service Precautions.





1. Raise the vehicle and support the vehicle with safety stands.
2. Remove the tire and the wheel from the vehicle. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
3. Install the pin into the park brake lever. Refer to Enabling the Park Brake Automatic Adjuster.
4. Remove the rear brake drums. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement.
5. Remove the rear brake shoes. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement.
6. Disconnect the brake pipe from the rear brake cylinder. Refer to Brake Pipe Replacement (Master Cylinder to EBCM) or Brake Pipe Replacement (Front Brake Pipe) or Brake Pipe Replacement (Rear Brake Front Pipe) or Brake Pipe Replacement (Rear Brake Rear Pipe).
7. Remove the rear brake cylinder retaining bolts.
8. Remove the rear brake cylinder from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure





1. Connect the rear brake cylinder to the vehicle.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the rear brake cylinder retaining bolts.
Tighten the rear brake cylinder retaining bolts to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).

3. Connect the brake pipe to the rear brake cylinder. Refer to Brake Pipe Replacement (Master Cylinder to EBCM) or Brake Pipe Replacement (Front Brake Pipe) or Brake Pipe Replacement (Rear Brake Front Pipe) or Brake Pipe Replacement (Rear Brake Rear Pipe).
Tighten the rear brake pipe to the rear brake cylinder to 17 Nm (13 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the rear brake shoes. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement.
5. Install the rear brake drums. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement.
6. Remove the pin to the park brake lever. Refer to Enabling the Park Brake Automatic Adjuster.
7. Install the tire and the wheel on the vehicle. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation or Tire Repair.
8. Bleed the brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Manual) or Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Pressure Bleeding).
9. Adjust the rear brakes. Refer to Drum Brake Adjustment.
10. Adjust the park brake if necessary. Refer to Park Brake Cable Service/Adjustment.
