Emergency Broadcast (PTY-31)

This feature provides for the interruption of the audio for the broadcast of a weather/disaster alert. Emergency by PTY-31 is described in the European standard. Sweden uses PTY-31 around all of the nuclear power plants as a public warning system. The nuclear power plant must supply to all homes a warning receiver that will sound an alarm in the event of an accident. This broadcast is received automatically. This broadcast requires no operation action.

There is no emergency broadcast test (PTY-30). This test is not a part of the European Radio Data System (RDS) standards.
