Exhaust Manifold: Service and Repair
Removal Procedures
1. Remove the engine cover from the vehicle. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement.
2. Remove the transmission oil level indicator tube.
3. Raise the vehicle enough to remove the both front wheels to gain access to the glow plugs.
4. Remove the splash shields from the frame to the wheel housing. Refer to Splash Shield Replacement - Wheelhouse.
Important: To remove the glow plugs from No. 1, 3, 2 and 4 cylinders, you may have to remove them through the wheel well.
5. Remove the glow plugs from the cylinder head.
6. Raise the vehicle and support with safety stands. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
7. Remove the exhaust manifolds from the cylinder head.
8. Inspect and clean the sealing surfaces on the cylinder head and the exhaust manifold.
Installation Procedures
1. Install the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head (right side shown).
2. Install the exhaust manifold bolts (right side shown).
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
^ Tighten the bolts to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).
3. Install the exhaust pipe from the turbocharger to the exhaust manifold. Refer to Turbocharger Replacement.
4. Install the glow plugs in the cylinder head.
5. Install the splash shields from the frame to the wheel housing. Refer to Splash Shield Replacement - Wheelhouse.
6. Install both front wheels (if removed) and lower the vehicle.
7. Install the transmission oil level indicator tube.
8. Install the engine cover in the vehicle. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement.
