Cylinder Head Replacement


Removal Procedure





1. Open the hood.
2. Disconnect the battery negative cable from the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure.
3. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Cooling System.
4. Remove the engine cover from the vehicle. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement.
5. Remove the upper intake manifold from the lower intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement (Upper Intake Manifold) or Intake Manifold Replacement (Lower Intake Manifold).
6. Remove the lower intake manifold from the cylinder heads. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement (Upper Intake Manifold) or Intake Manifold Replacement (Lower Intake Manifold).
7. Remove the air conditioning compressor from the mounting bracket and lay aside (left cylinder head). Refer to Compressor Replacement in Heating and Air Conditioning.
8. Remove the air conditioning compressor mounting bracket and lay aside (left cylinder head). Refer to Accessory Mounting Brackets Replacement (AC) or Accessory Mounting Brackets Replacement (Generator) in Heating and Air Conditioning.
9. Remove the generator from the generator mounting bracket. Refer to Generator Replacement.
10. Remove the generator mounting bracket (right cylinder head). Refer to Accessory Mounting Brackets Replacement (AC) or Accessory Mounting Brackets Replacement (Generator).





11. Remove the exhaust manifold from the cylinder head. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement.
12. Remove the spark plugs from the cylinder head. Refer to Spark Plug Replacement.
13. Remove the valve rocker arm cover from the cylinder head. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement.
14. Remove the valve rocker arm from the cylinder head. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement.
15. Remove the push rods from the cylinder head. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement.





16. Remove the cylinder head from the vehicle.
^ For the left cylinder removal, refer to Cylinder, Head Removal (Left).
^ For the right cylinder removal, refer to Cylinder Head Removal (Right).
17. Disassemble the cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head Disassemble.
18. Clean and inspect the sealing surfaces of the engine block. Refer to Cylinder Head Clean and Inspect.


Installation Procedure





1. Assemble the cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head Assemble.
2. Install the cylinder head to the engine block. Refer to Cylinder Head Installation (Left) and Cylinder Head Installation (Right).
3. Install the push rod into the engine block. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement.
4. Install the valve rocker arm to the cylinder head. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement.
5. Install the valve rocker arm cover to the cylinder head. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement.





6. Install the Install the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement.
7. Install the spark plugs to the cylinder head. Refer to Spark Plug Replacement.
8. Install the lower intake manifold to the cylinder heads. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement (Upper Intake Manifold) or Intake Manifold Replacement (Lower Intake Manifold).
9. Install the upper intake manifold to the lower intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement (Upper Intake Manifold) or Intake Manifold Replacement (Lower Intake Manifold).





10. Install the generator mounting bracket to the cylinder head. Refer to Accessory Mounting Brackets Replacement (AC) or Accessory Mounting Brackets Replacement (Generator).
11. Install the generator to the mounting bracket. Refer to Generator Replacement.
12. Install the air conditioning mounting bracket to the cylinder head. Refer to Accessory Mounting Brackets Replacement (AC) or Accessory Mounting Brackets Replacement (Generator) in Heating and Air Conditioning.
13. Install the a/c compressor to the a/c mounting bracket. Refer to Compressor Replacement in Heating and Air Conditioning.
14. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Cooling System.
15. Connect the battery negative cable to the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure.
16. Install Engine Cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement.
