Cassette Player Operation
In order to operate the cassette player:^ The ignition switch must be in the ACC or ON position.
^ The radio power must be on.
The cassette player is designed to work best with tapes which are 60 to 90 minutes long. Longer tapes are thinner. Longer tapes may not function properly in this unit. Do not use these tapes in order to diagnose problems in the cassette player.
The side of the cassette with the tape visible should face to the right when you insert the cassette into the unit. The tape may not be seated squarely in the player if the following conditions occur:
^ You hear no sound.
^ You hear garbled sound.
In order to correct this problem, press the EJECT button in order to remove the tape. Reinsert the tape. When you insert a metal or chrome tape, MTL will appear on the display. Once the tape begins to play, you may use the following controls in the same manner as with the radio:
^ Volume
^ Treble
^ Bass
^ Balance
^ Fade
The cassette radio has a feature in order to determine if a cassette tape is broken. When the take-up reel spins faster than a set threshold, the player assumes that the tape is broken. The tape will eject. You may disable this feature by pressing and holding the TAPE button for approximately five seconds while the ignition is on and the radio is off. The TAPE icon will blink once or twice in order to indicate that this feature has been disabled. The Cut Tape Detection feature will remain disabled until you press the EJECT button.
