Clutch Pedal Replacement

Removal Procedure

Important: Before removing the clutch pedal shaft arm from the clutch pedal shaft, place a reference mark on the clutch pedal shaft and clutch pedal shaft arm to ensure the correct assembly. If the clutch pedal shaft arm is installed in a position other than the one from which it was removed, the clutch release lever travel will increase or decrease resulting in a misadjusted clutch pedal.





1. Disconnect the manual transmission clutch start switch (24).
2. Disconnect the release clutch pedal position switch (22).
3. Disconnect the stoplamp switch.
4. Remove the clutch master cylinder push rod clevis retainer.
5. Remove the clutch master cylinder push rod clevis pin.
6. Remove the brake pedal push rod clevis retainer.
7. Remove the brake pedal push rod clevis pin.
8. Remove the 3 bolts (25) at the top of the clutch pedal bracket.
9. Remove the 4 nuts at the bottom of the clutch pedal bracket.
10. Remove the clutch pedal return spring from the brake pedal bracket.
11. Remove the clutch pedal bracket assembly from the vehicle.

Disassembly Procedure





1. Remove the clutch pedal arm bolt (14) and the nut (15).
2. Remove the clutch pedal arm (4).
3. Remove the clutch pedal lever (9).
4. Remove the clutch pedal shaft (1) and the bushings (13) from the clutch pedal bracket (17).
5. Inspect the clutch pedal shaft (1) and clutch pedal shaft bushings (13) for excessive wear. Replace as necessary.
6. Inspect the clutch pedal lever for distortion or bending. Replace as necessary.
7. Inspect the clutch pedal return spring (5) for distortion or weakness. Replace as necessary.

Assembly Procedure





1. Install the clutch pedal shaft bushings (2,28) into the clutch pedal bracket (1).
2. Apply a thin coat of lithium grease to the inside of the clutch pedal shaft bushings (2,28).
3. Install the clutch pedal (13), the clutch pedal lever (6) and the clutch pedal return spring (18) into the clutch pedal bracket (1).
4. Install the clutch pedal return spring to the brake pedal bracket.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

5. Install the clutch pedal shaft arm (17) onto the clutch pedal shaft aligning index marks made during removal; secure with 1 bolt and 1 nut.
^ Tighten the clutch pedal shaft arm bolt and nut to 24 Nm (17 ft. lbs.).

Installation Procedure





1. Apply Lubriplate Lubricant, GM P/N 1052196, or equivalent, to the clutch pedal pull back spring (18).
2. Install the clutch pedal assembly into the vehicle.
3. Install the 4 nuts at the bottom of the clutch pedal bracket.
^ Tighten the 4 nuts to 33 Nm (24 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the 3 bolts (25) at the top of the clutch pedal bracket.
^ Tighten the 3 bolts to 33 Nm (24 ft. lbs.).
5. Install the brake pedal push rod clevis pin and retainer.
6. Install the clutch master cylinder push rod clevis pin and retainer.
7. Connect the release clutch pedal position switch (22).
8. Connect the stoplamp switch.
9. Connect the manual transmission clutch start switch (24).
