24. Rear Upper Valve Body Disassemble

^ Tools Required
- J 26900-5 Vernier Caliper

Important: When disassembling the valve body halves, keep all valve springs, spring seats and plugs within their respective valves. Most valve springs are of different sizes and CANNOT be interchanged. Verify that all parts are clean and dry before assembly.





1. Remove the six valve body balls (2).





2. Perform the following steps in order to remove the 3-2 kickdown control valve plug (1):
2.1. Depress the plug.
2.2. Remove the needle holder using a magnet.
2.3. Remove the plug.
2.4. Remove the clutch sequence valve.
2.5. Remove the reverse brake sequence valve spring.





3. Perform the following steps in order to remove the 3-4 shift valve plug:
3.1. Depress the plug (1).
3.2. Remove the retainer using a magnet (2).
3.3. Remove the plug.
3.4. Remove the spring.





4. Remove the following rear upper valve body plate components:
^ The bolts
^ The plate (1)
^ The gasket
5. Remove the 1-2 shift valve and spring.





6. Perform the following steps in order to remove the 2-3 shift valve and plug:
6.1. Depress the plug (1).
6.2. Remove the retainer using a magnet.
6.3. Remove the plug.
6.4. Remove the valve.
6.5. Remove the spring.
7. Clean all upper valve body components.
8. All the components to air dry.
9. Inspect all valves for cracks, scoring, or other damage. Replace as necessary.
10. Inspect all valve springs for distortion or other damage. Replace as necessary.
11. Inspect the valve bores for scoring or cracks. Replace as necessary.
12. Measure the free length and the outer diameter of all rear upper valve body springs using the J 26900-5.
13. If the spring free length does not meet the specifications as listed in the table below, replace as necessary. Refer to the Rear Upper Valve Body Spring Specifications portion of Front Upper Valve Body Spring Specifications.
