Rear Coil Spring Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE





1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Using a floor jack (2), support the rear axle housing (1).





3. Disconnect the park brake cable hanger (1) from the chassis frame (2). Disconnect the clamp from the cross member.





4. Remove the lower mounting bolt (2) from the shock absorber (1).





5. If the vehicle is equipped with ABS, remove the wheel speed sensor clamps (2) from the upper control arm (1) and the axle housing.
6. For the right side, remove the E-ring used for fixing the brake pipe, and disconnect the breather hose from the axle housing.





7. Lower the rear axle housing gradually as far down as necessary to permit coil spring removal.
8. Remove the coil spring (2).

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

IMPORTANT: When seating the coil spring, mate the spring end with the stepped part (4) of the rear axle spring seat (3).





1. Install the coil spring (1) on the spring seat (3) of the axle housing (2). Raise the axle housing.





2. Install the shock absorber lower bolt (2). The bolt should be toward the center of the body, and the nut should be towards the outside of the body. Do NOT tighten the nut.





3. Install the wheel speed sensor clamp (if equipped) and install the E-ring.
4. Connect the breather hose to the axle housing.
5. Connect the park brake cable hanger (1) to the chassis frame (2) and clamp the hanger to the cross member.
6. Remove the floor jack from the axle housing.





7. Lower the vehicle. Verify that the weight of the vehicle is on the tires and wheels.
8. Install a new shock absorber nut.
- Tighten the shock absorber lower nut to 85 Nm (61.5 ft. lbs.).
