Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

STEERING GEAR BOOT INSPECTION





Inspect the boot (3) for cracks and damage which could indicate any of the following conditions:
- Rusty steering gear components
- Entry of dust into the steering gear
- Lack of grease on the steering gear components

If the steering gear boot is cracked or damaged, replace the boot. Inspect the steering rack boot for dents or improper folds. If found, compress the boot for several seconds in order to correct the folds.

TIE ROD END DUST SEAL INSPECTION





Inspect the tie rod seal (4) for cracks or damage. Replace a cracked or damaged tie rod seal.

OUTER TIE ROD END INSPECTION





Inspect the outer tie rod end, ball joint (1) for play. If the outer tie rod end ball joint is damaged, replace the outer tie rod end.
