Parking Brake Lever: Adjustments
INSPECTION PROCEDURE1. Pull the park brake lever (2) with approximately 20 kg (40 lbs) of force.
2. Count the number of clicks or ratchet notches.
Specification
^ The minimum number of clicks is 5.
^ The maximum number of clicks is 7.
3. Verify that the park brake prevents the vehicle from moving.
4. Complete the Adjustment Procedure if the park brake lever travel is not in the specification.
ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE

- J 28662 Brake Pedal Effort Gauge
1. Press the brake pedal 3 times with 30 kg (66 lbs) of force using the J 28662.
2. Pull the park brake lever (2) several times with approximately 20 kg (40 lbs) of force.
3. Release the park brake.
4. Remove the 4 screws (1,3,4,6), the 2 clips (2,5), and lift up the console.
5. Inspect the park brake lever notches. If the notches are damaged or worn, replace the park brake lever.
6. If the vehicle has an automatic transmission, disconnect the power normal switch connector.
7. If the vehicle has an auxiliary power outlet, disconnect the auxiliary power outlet connector.
8. Disconnect the park brake switch connector (10).
9. Loosen or tighten the park brake cable lock nut (1) in order to adjust the park brake lever travel.
10. Inspect the park brake lever (2) travel.
11. If the park brake lever travel is not in the specification, adjust the drum brakes.
12. If the park brake cables are damaged, replace the park brake cables.
13. Connect the park brake switch connector (10).
14. Position the console over the shift knob.
15. If the vehicle has an auxiliary power outlet, connect the auxiliary power outlet connector.
16. If the vehicle has an automatic transmission, connect the power normal switch connector.
17. Install the console. Secure with 4 screws (1,3,4,6) and 2 clips (2,5).
