Transfer Case (Two Speed Selectable)

Removal Procedure





1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the transfer case shield. Refer to Shield Replacement.
3. If replacing the front output shaft seal, remove the front propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement - Front in Drive/Propeller Shafts, Bearings & Joints.
4. If replacing the rear extension output shaft seal, remove one of the following:
^ Remove the rear one piece propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement - Rear in Drive/Propeller Shafts, Bearings & Joints.
^ Remove the rear two piece propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement -Two Piece in Drive/Propeller Shafts, Bearings & Joints.
5. Remove the propeller shaft yoke.
6. Remove the seal.
^ Use a screwdriver in order to remove the seal.
^ Do not damage the sealing bore.

Installation Procedure

^ Tools Required
- J 33831 Front Output Shaft Seal Installer
- J 33843 Rear Output Shaft Seal Installer





1. If installing the seal on the rear extension, use J 33831 in order to install the rear output shaft extension seal.





2. If installing the front output shaft seal, use J 33831 in order to install the front output shaft extension seal.





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Install the front or rear propeller shaft yoke, rubber seal washer, washer, and nut.
^ Tighten the front or rear output shaft yoke nut to 149 Nm (110 ft. lbs.).
4. Install one of the following propeller shafts:
^ Install the front output shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement - Front in Drive/Propeller Shafts, Bearings & Joints.
^ Install the rear the one piece propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement -Rear in Drive/Propeller Shafts, Bearings & Joints.
^ install the rear two piece propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement - Two Piece in Drive/Propeller Shafts, Bearings & Joints.
5. Check the transfer case oil level and add oil as necessary. Refer to Capacities - Approximate Fluid.
6. Install the transfer case shield. Refer to Shield Replacement.
7. Lower the vehicle.
