Transfer Case Output Shaft Seal Replacement (Rear)

Removal Procedure





1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. If equipped, remove the transfer case shields. Refer to Shield Replacement.
3. Remove rear propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement - Rear or Propeller Shaft Replacement - Two Piece in Drive/Propeller Shafts, Bearings & Joints.
4. Remove the rear output shaft seal.

Installation Procedure

- J 29162 Rear Output Shaft Seal Installer





1. Install the seal.
1.1. Lubricate the seal mating surface with Automatic Transfer Case Oil GM P/N 12378396.
1.2. Install the seal using the J 29162.
2. Install the rear propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement - Rear or Propeller Shaft Replacement - Two Piece in Drive/Propeller Shafts, Bearings & Joints.
3. Check the transfer case oil level and add oil as necessary. Refer to Oil Replacement.
4. If equipped, install the transfer case shields. Refer to Shield Replacement.
5. Lower the vehicle.
